Yellow water traps and sticky traps have been used for several decades in scientific studies, on aphids in particular, and their use has spread as inexpensive monitoring and control devices especially in glasshouses. Recent concern for the environment has lead to their more extensive use and more research has been done to optimise the choice of colour and location.
Why use Wetstick Traps?
Sticky traps are an important tool in pest management providing;
- Early identification of flying insect pests and indication of pest levels
- Guide for when to introduce beneficial insects
- Guide for timing of spray applications
- Guide to numbers of flying beneficial insects present such as parasites and predators
- Wetstick traps catch higher numbers of pests compared to other traps, due to the heavier grade of glue used on the traps. This provides a useful contribution to the reduction in flying pest populations
